Aquarium of Biarritz
Our work for a 4 story aquarium in Biarritz, France.
The Task
Our assignment from the Aquarium of Biarritz was to design and build their brand new jellyfish exhibit. We delivered 9 different aquariums for a total volume of 11,000 litres of water volume. This included 8 display tanks and a lab for them to quarantine their new arrivals.
The Design
Our tanks were delivered to the aquarium before the final room was built. This gave us a lot of freedom when it came to designing these tanks. We delivered both full kreisels and stretched kreisels to display a very wide range of species in their display. We had to crane in the new tanks into the gorgeous art-deco building, but it all worked out without any damage to the systems. This project was focused heavily on aesthetics, as this was not a lab but a display section of an aquarium.
We used our classic and extended kreisel designs, but with the internal pump equipped inside each kreisel, allowing the internal water flow to occur with less (or even no) reliance on the return pump during feeding time, thereby minimising food waste.
