Wonders of Wildlife

The Task

We created a full Jellyfish display and breeding facility for the Wonders of Wildlife in Springfield, MO. We delivered a total 4 display aquariums and 6 breeding systems that now holds over 10,000 litres and hundreds of jellyfish in all stages of growth.

Along side the state of the art culturing equipment, they also have a display section open to visitors, educating visitors on these creatures, including 3 smaller kreisel aquariums showing ephyrae, young jellyfish and fully grown ones.

The Design

For the four display aquariums, we created all-in-on self-contained systems with a single sump per tank. For the grow-out systems, we used our specialized aluminum racks with a shared sump and plumbing to maximize the amount of jellyfish that could be kept without sacrificing water quality. We used our bio tower design to maximize the oxygen saturation of the denitrifying bacteria which makes them orders of magnitude more efficient at keeping the water unpolluted.

For the breeding benches we also implemented our bathtub-style water flow which not only reduces maintenance and lowers the chance of catastrophic clogs in the drains, but also helps maintain stable temperatures inside the system, thus requiring far less energy to cool/heat. It also makes moving tanks in and out of the system for maintenance or plugging and playing to other benches trivially easy.
